Both are driverless for core docking features. Both carry Kensington’s three-year limited warranty. Both target the same kind of desk: a Windows or Mac laptop, wired Ethernet, USB accessories, and one or two external displays.
The difference is in the port philosophy. The SD5780T is the more premium dual-display dock. It has one HDMI 2.1 port, two downstream Thunderbolt 4 ports, 2.5 Gbps Ethernet, four USB-A ports, a UHS-II SD reader, TAA compliance, and a strong 8.0 score in our product data. It is the safer pick for most people who want a long-term Thunderbolt 4 dock and are comfortable using a Thunderbolt or USB-C display path for the second monitor.
The SD5760T is more direct. It gives you two HDMI 2.0 ports, one downstream Thunderbolt 4 port, one extra USB-C 3.2 port, four USB-A ports, Gigabit Ethernet, UHS-II SD and microSD readers, and the same 96W laptop charging. Why the SD5780T wins overall
The SD5780T wins because it has fewer weak points. It is not perfect, and the original $399.99 MSRP is high next to many excellent Thunderbolt 4 docks, but the product data gives it the better overall case.
The first advantage is Ethernet. The SD5780T supports 2.5 Gbps wired networking. The SD5760T is limited to 1 Gbps. That will not matter if your router, switch, or office network is still Gigabit, but it matters for NAS transfers, large local backups, media work, and anyone already running 2.5GbE at the desk. Thunderbolt docks tend to stay in service for years. Buying the faster Ethernet port now is a reasonable hedge.
The second advantage is HDMI 2.1. There is no clean port-count winner because the layouts are built for different desks. The SD5760T has the more convenient video ports for two HDMI monitors, and it has the better media-card setup because it includes microSD. The suggested workaround is to use a native Thunderbolt 4 cable to a monitor with USB-C or Thunderbolt input, or a certified active Thunderbolt-to-HDMI 2.0 cable.
The SD5760T has the more worrying known incompatibility: systems sensitive to Thunderbolt dock stability may see display or dock disconnects. The YAML ties that to PCWorld testing of two units. If you are buying for a desk where Teams calls, external monitors, and Ethernet cannot drop, that matters more than the SD5760T’s cleaner HDMI layout.
Price and value
At MSRP, the SD5760T looks much cheaper: $239.99 versus $399.99 for the SD5780T. If both are sold at those prices and your only requirement is two HDMI 2.0 monitors plus 96W charging, the SD5760T has a real value argument.
The problem is that value is not just a price tag. The SD5780T gives you 2.5GbE, HDMI 2.1, a second downstream Thunderbolt 4 port, TAA compliance, and the higher product score. It also avoids the SD5760T’s major reliability warning in our product data. If the dock is for paid work, the safer product can be the better value even at a higher price.
The SD5760T’s best value case is a discounted purchase from a retailer with easy returns. The YAML verdict says it is still worth considering if you find it at a strong discount and can test it with your exact laptop and monitors. That is the right way to think about it. Buy it because the dual-HDMI layout solves a specific problem at the right price, not because it is the better all-around dock.
The SD5780T’s best value case is a desk that will benefit from its premium features. If your network supports 2.5GbE, if your main monitor can use HDMI 2.1, if you need Thunderbolt accessories, or if the dock is going into an office environment where lock slots, TAA compliance, and the three-year warranty matter, the higher price is easier to justify.

It is the more expensive dock, but it also has the premium features that make a dock feel useful for more than one laptop generation.
The SD5760T is more tempting than the score suggests if your desk is simple: two HDMI monitors, no 2.5GbE network, no Thunderbolt storage, and a strong discount. Its SD plus microSD card readers are also a practical advantage. I would still treat it as a buy-and-test dock because the YAML includes a major disconnect warning from third-party testing.
