Kensington SD5800T vs SD5760T: the short version
The Kensington SD5800T and Kensington SD5760T are both native Thunderbolt 4 docks from the same brand, but they solve different desk problems. The SD5800T is the ambitious option. It is a 16-in-1 Thunderbolt 4 and USB4 dock with two HDMI 2.1 ports, two DisplayPort 1.4 ports, 2.5GbE, SD and microSD UHS-II readers, six USB-A ports, and up to 98W certified host charging. Its headline feature is support for up to four 4K@60Hz displays on compatible Windows laptops without using DisplayLink.
The SD5760T is the simpler and cheaper sibling. It is a 13-in-1 Thunderbolt 4 dock with two HDMI 2.0 ports, one downstream Thunderbolt 4 port, one USB-C 3.2 port, four USB-A ports, Gigabit Ethernet, a 3.5mm combo audio jack, SD and microSD UHS-II readers, and up to 96W host charging. Its best argument is convenience: if your desk uses two ordinary HDMI monitors, the layout is easy. Plug both monitors into HDMI, connect the Thunderbolt cable, and you have a clean dual 4K@60Hz setup on a host that supports it.
Our winner is the SD5800T. That does not make the SD5760T pointless. It has a much lower MSRP in the product files, one downstream Thunderbolt 4 port, the same three-year limited warranty, and a very direct dual-HDMI layout. Why the SD5800T wins overall
The SD5800T wins because the product files make it the more capable dock. It scores 8.4 versus 7.1, supports twice as many displays in its best supported configuration, and has more premium desk hardware around the edges. That matters because docks tend to stay on a desk longer than the laptop connected to them. A dock with more display headroom, faster Ethernet, and a wider port layout is easier to carry into the next setup.
The most important advantage is display output. The SD5800T has two HDMI 2.1 ports and two DisplayPort 1.4 ports. Its YAML lists quad 4K@60Hz for compatible Windows laptops, with the caveat that the host must support the required display streams, bandwidth, and DSC. If your real-world prices match the YAML, the SD5760T is far easier to justify for a simple office desk. You may not care about quad 4K, 2.5GbE, HDMI 2.1, or six USB-A ports if the desk is just a laptop, two HDMI monitors, Ethernet, keyboard, mouse, webcam, and a headset.
The SD5760T also has one downstream Thunderbolt 4 port. The SD5800T product data does not list any downstream Thunderbolt 4 accessory ports beyond the host connection. That gives the SD5760T a small but real advantage if you own a Thunderbolt SSD, a USB-C monitor, or an accessory that benefits from a 40 Gbps downstream path. The SD5800T spends its expansion budget on fixed HDMI and DisplayPort outputs instead.
The SD5760T’s direct dual-HDMI layout is still useful. Many office monitors, conference-room displays, and budget 4K screens use HDMI. With the SD5760T, you do not need to think about whether the second monitor should use USB-C, Thunderbolt, or DisplayPort. Both displays use the rear HDMI 2.0 ports. The SD5800T is the more complete desktop hub. Its product data lists one Thunderbolt 4 host connection, two HDMI 2.1 ports, two DisplayPort 1.4 ports, one USB-C 3.2 port, six USB-A ports, RJ45 Ethernet with 1 Gbps and 2.5 Gbps support, a 3.5mm combo audio jack, SD and microSD UHS-II readers, DC power, and Kensington security slots. It also includes a 3.25 ft Thunderbolt 4 cable and a vertical stand.
That port mix is built for a dense Windows workstation desk. The fixed HDMI and DisplayPort outputs make sense if the monitors stay connected all the time. Six USB-A ports make sense if the desk has a lot of older peripherals. 2.5GbE makes sense if the network can use it. The SD and microSD readers make sense for camera and drone cards. That is not unusual for native Thunderbolt docks, but it does mean you should check the laptop’s official external display specs before buying. A dock cannot fix a GPU or firmware path that does not expose enough display streams.
For Mac users, neither dock is a DisplayLink workaround. If you need extra displays on a base Apple Silicon Mac that natively supports only one external monitor, look at DisplayLink docks instead. If you have a MacBook Pro, Max, Ultra, or newer M4-class Mac that supports two external displays, both Kensington docks can fit. The SD5800T gives you fixed HDMI and DisplayPort outputs. Price and value
The SD5760T wins on listed MSRP: $239.99 versus $379.99 for the SD5800T. That matters. A $140 gap can pay for cables, a laptop stand, a better webcam, or a separate fast charger. If the dock is for a simple two-monitor desk, the SD5760T’s cheaper price is the main reason to consider it.
The SD5800T wins on capability per dock. It has the higher product score, more displays, newer HDMI, DisplayPort outputs, faster Ethernet, more USB-A ports, slightly higher host charging, and the stronger verdict in the product file. If you will use even two or three of those advantages, the higher MSRP is easier to justify. If you will use all of them, the SD5760T is the wrong class of dock.
The hard part is that retailer pricing changes. The SD5800T YAML itself warns that pricing has moved around and that Kensington’s official product page has shown a lower price while also marking the product as no longer available. The SD5760T YAML says it can be worth considering at a strong discount with easy returns. So the practical value rule is simple: compare actual cart prices, not just MSRP.
At similar street prices, pick the SD5800T. It is the better dock by the facts in the product data. If the SD5760T is dramatically cheaper and your desk is exactly two HDMI monitors with no need for 2.5GbE or quad display support, it can be the better budget decision. Just keep the disconnect caveat in mind.
