Neither product is a full docking station in the usual desktop sense. A full dock normally gives you fixed monitor outputs, Ethernet, audio, several USB-A ports, maybe a card reader, and enough charging to make the laptop’s own power brick optional. These two Plugable models are different. They are Thunderbolt and USB4 port multipliers.
That design is good if your desk already runs on USB-C. A USB-C monitor, a Thunderbolt SSD, a capture card, a USB-C card reader, or a USB-C to HDMI adapter can all hang from the three downstream ports. The hubs keep the box small and avoid the wide rear panel of a 12-port or 16-port dock. The TBT4-HUB3C YAML describes it as a compact hub for people who want more USB-C and Thunderbolt ports, not a desktop dock with Ethernet, audio, card readers, and fixed monitor outputs. The USB4-HUB3A YAML says almost the same thing, then adds the one USB-A port.
That distinction matters before you choose between them. If you need wired Ethernet, a headset jack, an SD reader, and HDMI built into the dock, neither is the right product. Port layout: USB-A is the whole argument
The TBT4-HUB3C has three rear downstream Thunderbolt 4 or USB4 ports. Each one is listed at up to 40Gbps with up to 15W device charging, and each can carry display output when the host supports it. That is the clean version of the product. You plug the laptop into the front host port, then use the three rear USB-C shaped ports for displays, storage, adapters, and other downstream devices.

A keyboard receiver, mouse dongle, webcam, older flash drive, USB audio interface, label printer, or hardware security key may still use USB-A. The USB4-HUB3A YAML says Thunderbolt 3 Windows systems are also less predictable and recommends Thunderbolt 4 or USB4 for the intended experience.
Display winner: tie. Buy one of these for dual 4K from a compatible native Thunderbolt 4 or USB4 laptop, not because one has a stronger monitor spec than the other.
Charging and power: same 60W limit, different brick size
Both hubs deliver up to 60W of USB-C Power Delivery to the host laptop. That number is enough for a MacBook Air, many 13-inch business laptops, and light 14-inch machines. It is not enough to replace the original charger for larger workstation laptops under sustained load. The YAML for both products says high-power systems may still need their own charger.
The external power adapters differ slightly. The TBT4-HUB3C uses an external 110W power adapter. The USB4-HUB3A uses an external 100W power adapter. In both cases, the power brick is required. The USB4-HUB3A YAML says the 100W adapter takes more space than the hub suggests. If you want something that lives permanently in a backpack and runs without wall power, these are not the best fit.

Compatibility and driver behavior
Both products have driver type listed as None. That is a major reason to choose a native Thunderbolt or USB4 hub over a DisplayLink dock. You do not install display software. These are close siblings. But when the lower-priced model has the higher score and the more practical port layout, the recommendation becomes straightforward.

Then it adds a 10Gbps USB-A port and costs less in the product data. That is the whole comparison.
The Plugable TBT4-HUB3C is not a bad hub. Its product data still gives it an 8.0/10 score, and the core Thunderbolt expansion story is strong. It makes sense if you want three rear downstream USB-C shaped ports and nothing else. It is also the cleaner visual match for a desk where every accessory already uses USB-C or Thunderbolt.
