For supported HP workstations, the combo cable is cleaner than running a standard Thunderbolt dock beside a separate barrel charger. The dock can provide up to 230W to HP platforms, supports up to four 4K displays when the host has enough DisplayPort bandwidth and DSC, and keeps the enterprise features IT teams expect from HP docks. The trade-off is that most of the value disappears outside that HP workstation setup. Non-HP systems are limited to 75W USB-C charging, some management features do not work, and macOS still has the usual MST limitations. It also has no audio jack or card reader, and the host cable is not a generic removable Thunderbolt cable. If you use a ZBook that needs more than 100W, this dock is the right G4 variant.
