A Thunderbolt 3 laptop gets the full 40 Gbps connection and dual 4K@60Hz displays. A USB-C Alt Mode laptop still works, but with lower display limits: one 4K@60Hz or dual 1440p@60Hz on HBR3 hosts, and one 4K@30Hz or dual 1080p@60Hz on HBR2 hosts. That flexibility is the main reason this older dock still matters. Kensington sells the SD5600T as a 14-in-1 or 15-port dock depending on how the host connection is counted. The useful ports are straightforward: two HDMI 2.0 outputs, two DisplayPort 1.2 outputs, one USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 front port, six USB-A ports, Gigabit Ethernet, a 3.5mm combo audio jack, and UHS-II SD plus microSD readers. The dock includes a 0.8m Thunderbolt 3 cable, supports horizontal or vertical placement, and can deliver up to 96W of certified host charging from its external power brick. This is not a current flagship. Kensington marks the product as no longer available on its own store, and newer models like the SD5760T and SD5780T have cleaner Thunderbolt 4 positioning. The SD5600T still has one advantage over many newer native docks: it can fall back to regular USB-C Alt Mode without DisplayLink drivers. Very Good

The Kensington SD5600T is best viewed as a flexible desk dock, not a bargain-bin relic and not a modern flagship. The port selection is still strong: four dedicated video outputs, seven USB data ports, card readers, Gigabit Ethernet, audio, and 96W laptop charging. The ability to choose HDMI or DisplayPort for dual monitors is genuinely convenient, especially in offices with older monitors and mixed cable inventories. The tradeoff is that the experience depends heavily on the host. Thunderbolt 3 systems get dual 4K at 60Hz. USB-C systems get reduced display modes, and base M1, M2, and M3 MacBooks remain limited to one external display by Apple hardware limits. Kensington DockWorks is also Windows only, although the dock itself is driverless for normal use. Reviews are split in a useful way: MacSources and The Gadgeteer had positive day-to-day experiences, while Windows Central described frustrating performance and connection problems. That does not make the dock unusable, but it does make returns and firmware updates worth thinking about before you build a desk around it. If you can buy the SD5600T cheaply and need a Thunderbolt 3 dock that also works with USB-C Alt Mode laptops, it is still a practical option.
